This is the typical itinerary for people arriving in Bologna for the first time who want to enter into the heart of the city. Starting from Piazza Maggiore the visit will touch on the principal monuments of Piazza, such as Palazzo D’Accursio, the building that housed the papal legate from the 1600s to the 1900s and is now the City Hall. Other buildings on the Piazza are Palazzo Re Enzo, Palazzo del Podestà, and the Church of S.Petronio. Continue along the narrow streets of the medieval market until you reach Piazza della Mercanzia and the Due Torri [Two Towers] which are the icon of the city of Bologna.
